After two Olympic gold medals in Paris earlier this summer, Remco Evenepoel will now turn his attention to claiming another Rainbow Jersey at the 2024 World Championships in Zurich.
The departing Belgian national coach Sven Vanthourenhout had hoped to call upon Team Visma | Lease a Bike superstar Wout van Aert for this year's World Championship road race. However, the 29-year-old sadly crashed out of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana in the third week, extra disappointing considering the Belgian had been in such good form, winning three stages and leading both the Points Classification and the King of the Mountains.
Despite Van Aert's absence however, Evenepoel still headlines an all-star lineup for the Belgian's trip to Zurich. Although somewhat surprisingly, no Soudal - Quick-Step teammates will join the reigning time-trial world champion. Notably, in the time-trial this time around, Evenepoel will return to defend his title, with Victor Campenaerts also in the fight against the clock.
Campenaerts will also join Evenepoel in the road race. Completing the lineup for the road race are the strong squad of Team Visma | Lease a Bike's Tiesj Benoot, INEOS Grenadiers' Laurens De Plus, Alpecin-Deceuninck's Quinten Hermans, Lidl-Trek's Jasper Stuyven, Lotto Dstny's Maxim van Gils and UAE Team Emirates' Tim Wellens.
