Suleiman Kangangi, African gravel sensation, dies at age 33 in USA event

The gravel community in the USA has recently suffered the heavy loss of Moriah Wilson, and this weekend gravel star Suleiman Kangangi has passed away after a crash in an event taking place in Vermont.

For several years Kangangi, a Kenya native, has raced professionally on the road for Bike Aid and was one of Africa's most prominent riders. He took his quality on the bike to the gravel scene in the USA, where this weekend he was participating in the Vermont Overland race, where he tragically lost his life after a crash. .

In a statement, Kangangi's Team Amani have said: “Sule Kangangi tragically lost his life yesterday after crashing at high speed during a race in Vermont. Sule is our captain, friend, brother. He is also a father, husband, and son. Gaping holes are left when giant’s fall. Sule was a giant. Instead of leading us at the front of the pack, he will now lead us as our guiding pole star as we press forward in the realization of his dream.”

CyclingUpToDate would like to extend it's deepest sympathy and condolences to family and friends of Suleiman. A GoFundMe has been created towards supporting Sule's family amidst this tragic event.
