Bahrain - Victorious have announced Sonny Colbrelli will miss the rest of Paris-Nice as the Italian sprinter has contracted bronchitis. Jack Haig and Wout Poels will now take the helm and lead the team's overall ambitions with no secondary focus.
The team has shared this morning on social media that their sprinter would not be taking to the start of stage two. Colbrelli was one of the protagonists at the opening weekend where he finished runner-up to Wout van Aert on Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and then played a crucial role in assuring a bunch sprint to the end of Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne. He was one of the favourites coming into the first stage of Paris-Nice where Christophe Laporte took the win in an incredible raid by Jumbo-Visma, however he was seen off the back of the peloton before the final ascent, looking far from his best.
This comes at a crucial point of the season for the Italian as he is looking to sharpen his form for the first set of big goals of the season which include Milano-Sanremo, Tour des Flandres and Paris-Roubaix where he will be defending his title.
