OFFICIAL: British former Visma prospect and Ben Healy's childhood clubmate earns WorldTour chance with EF Education-EasyPost
Cycling
British cycling prospect Tomos Pattinson will step up to the WorldTour with EF Education-EasyPost in 2027, just one season after leaving Team Visma | Lease a Bike's development programme. The move will also see the Dudley-born rider join Ben Healy, with whom he shares a childhood cycling club and school in the West Midlands.
Both came through Halesowen Athletics and Cycling Club, albeit several years apart, and Pattinson will now work with the same coach as the Irish star as he prepares for his first season in the professional ranks.
From Visma's British talent intake to EF's WorldTour squad
Pattinson first caught the eye with victory at the junior Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2023. That June, Visma announced his recruitment alongside fellow British prospects Matthew Brennan and Jed Smithson, with all three joining the Dutch team's development programme for the following season.
While Brennan went on to secure a place in Visma's WorldTour squad, Pattinson spent two seasons with the development team, winning the British under-23 time trial championship in 2024 ahead of Ben Wiggins and Joshua Golliker. He added third place at Eschborn-Frankfurt U23 and fourth overall at the Istrian Spring Tour in 2025 before switching to EF Education-Aevolo.
His first season with EF brought eighth overall at the Circuit des Ardennes, sixth at the Visit South Aegean GP and sixth at the Coppa Citta di San Daniele, alongside opportunities to race with the senior squad at the Tour de la Provence, Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali and Tour of Austria.
"I've raced a lot with the WorldTour team throughout the year, so I've gained a lot from that and become more mature," Pattinson said following confirmation of his promotion. "I did a number of stage races this year with the WorldTour riders, so when it came to learning how to race with a radio, or just feeding off what the older riders were telling me, it was great to be part of that environment."
Pattinson also took on more responsibility within the development squad, helping organise the younger riders during races including the Tour de l'Avenir and Kreiz Breizh Elites.

Ben Healy connection and EF's long-standing interest
Pattinson previously discussed his connection to Healy when he first joined EF's development programme in November 2025. "Basically, Ben and I are from the same spot," he explained at the time. "I think he grew up a couple of miles away from me. He's older, obviously, so we never raced together, but I think we went to the same school as each other, and we both raced on Halesowen Athletics and Cycling Club as kids, but at different times."
The pair will now share a team and a coach, with Jacob Tipper, who also works with Healy, overseeing Pattinson's preparations for 2027.
EF head of scouting Sebastian Langeveld revealed that the team had been tracking Pattinson since his junior days, before their development programme was established. "We looked at him as a junior, but we didn't have a development team at that point. He signed for another team, and he stood out at all levels, but from what I've seen and what I believe, he's a rider with enormous talent," Langeveld explained.
EF renewed contact with Pattinson in 2025 and brought him into their development squad the following season. Despite a minor injury setback, his progress was enough to earn promotion.
"I think we can develop a lot of his skills over the coming years, and he can go long in breaks and be a strong all-rounder who can help the team," Langeveld said. "We've not seen the best of him yet, so it's a really exciting move for him and the team."
Pattinson will meet his new teammates over the winter and discuss his 2027 race programme with Tipper, with his first WorldTour season set to focus on developing his all-round abilities and supporting EF's established leaders.

- the 6th TDF is a more record breaking opportunity than a 2nd Giro. Jonas can double up. For Remco its TDF. For Sexias it will be a good opportunity but as usual TDF will be his main goal For del Toro, yes good opportunityabstractengineer04-11-2026

- This is an amazing route, honestly. Let's hope that it attracts riders to make it a compelling and competitive race. Side bar amusement: going to Slovenia and passing pretty close to Pogačar's house. I wonder if they were tempting him to get all 3 jerseys at once after winning the Tour and Vuelta. After all, only a very few have ever had all three at the same time (Froome being the last).RidesHills03-11-2026

Rafionain-Glas03-11-2026 - A great route, much more exciting than the Tour de France. Monte Livata is an interesting one, because they experimented with it at the 2026 Baby Giro, and it was fantastic. 4 km at 10%, then 10 km at 6.5% made for a great spectacle. The stage 16 is horrible. Montaner is also used in the U23s, in Giro del Belvedere
