According to reports in the British press, it is the end of an era at the INEOS Grenadiers as the longtime face of the team's behind-the-scenes staff, Sir Dave Brailsford has quit, focusing full-time on one of INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's other teams, Manchester United.
The Telegraph reports that Brailsford, who oversaw a boom period of British Cycling and the emergence of Team Sky/INEOS Grenadiers as one of the biggest forces in the men's peloton, winning multiple Grand Tours through the likes of Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, Egan Bernal and Tao Geoghegan Hart, said his farewells to the riders and staff at their winter training camp in Majorca.
Although once a seemingly central figure in the team's success, Brailsford has spent recent years more on the periphery of the action, having taken on various other roles in the INEOS conglomerate. This now includes redeveloping English Premier League giant, Manchester United.
Despite Brailsford's successes with Team Sky and the INEOS Grenadiers, there has also been controversy, most notably surrounding former team doctor, Richard Freeman who has since been found guilty of ordering testosterone for doping purposes. Brailsford and the team have always maintained their innocence and been adamant that they didn't know about the disgraced doctor's dodgy dealings.
