Olav Kooij missed the final stage victory in
Tour de Pologne. He could not overtake
Arnaud Démare in the final meters and finished second.
His team manager Arthur Van Dongen was not quite satisfied with the result. "Second place is, of course, always a place with an aftertaste. We were close to another victory," said Van Dongen.
He continues, "It is, however, something we can live well with. Realistically, this is another very good performance by Olav. The team did a great job today, just like the rest of the week. Prior to this race, our goal was to go for at least a stage win. We succeeded in doing so. We have been close to a second victory a number of times."
Kooij started the tour with victory as he secured the first stage. He wanted to end the tour with another win but had to satisfy himself with silver. "Olav was able to take the next step in his personal development here. He will take this experience with him to the next races. The guys who accompanied him in the sprints also rode a strong race. As a team, we can look back on a successful Tour of Poland," concluded Van Dongen.
