Results Tour of Denmark 2026 stage 3 - Wout Van Aert reinforces lead with victory in Vejle circuit

Stage 3 of the Tour of Denmark has been won by Wout Van Aert. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider has won his third stage in as many days and extended his race lead despite the Dutch team's aggressive stance throughout the queen stage of the race.
A stage heavily affected by crashes, as the race continued to see some of its riders go down. The queen stage and the Vejle circuit would most likely decide the race's overall classification, with the race being influenced by such incidents, including a puncture by Wout Van Aert with around 50 kilometers to go.
Sylvester Vittinghus Stobro, Andreas Stokbro, Aksel Bech Skot-Hansen and Boas Lysgaard formed the day's breakaway, one that didn't threaten the result on the stage. In the tough circuits that the riders faced, there were plenty attacks from early on, with riders trying to anticipate the competition and also looking to replicate the success of the attacks from previous years.
William Blume Levy, Matyas Kopecky and Marcus Sander Hansen went on the attack with 49 kilometers to go, joining Andreas Stokbro at the head of the race. They were later caught and with 19 kilometers to go, Christophe Laporte's pace in the peloton split it to bits.

Despite leading the race, Wout Van Aert hit the wind quite a lot in the final kilometers, seemingly working for Christophe Laporte. The Frenchman attacked with 4 kilometers to go but was followed, and so was Van Aert right after.
A sprint finish in the final hilltop would follow, with Wout Van Aert launching first, from very early on. Lukas Kubis followed and overtook him, but later on was distanced by the race leader. The final 500 meters were a drag race to the line in a slight uphill finale, in which the Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider held the gap to take his third stage win of the week. Kubis was second and Laporte sprinted to third behind.

- I'm one of those who really hopes Pog is clean, as he has real (and entertaining) skills like attacking at just the right moment to beat Carapaz and Martinez on Alpe d'Huez, taking just the right line to pull away on the descent on Stage 6, crashing in such a way that he can carry on and win, or avoiding crashing over a bidon. For me, the real moment of temptation to boost performance in some way would surely be when a rider is feeling desperate (whether to win again or simply not crack); and we might not be aware of such an inner struggle.Hills3331-07-2026
