After ten days
of racing at the 2025
Tour de France,
Remco Evenepoel is holding steady, and
still very much in the conversation. The Belgian launched an attack on the
final climb of Stage 10, only to be matched and passed by Tadej Pogacar and
Jonas Vingegaard in the closing moments. He ultimately lost six seconds but
walked away feeling confident.
“Overall, he had
a good day,” said team manager Klaas Lodewyck, speaking to HLN. “Those few
seconds are negligible after such a stage, in which they rode incredibly hard.
We briefly considered letting him attack earlier, but because of the wind, we
waited.”
The final
kilometers saw the Tour's top three on display, with Pogacar and Vingegaard
immediately responding to Evenepoel’s move. Still, Lodewyck said the gap that
opened wasn’t significant enough to change the dynamics at the top of the GC.
“Afterwards,
Pogacar and Vingegaard pulled away impressively, but ultimately everything
remained close together. Remco is very satisfied and felt good all day.”
Evenepoel
already has a win to his name this Tour, having taken the Stage 5 time trial.
He remains the top favorite for the white jersey and currently is the favourite
for the third spot on the podium, matching his final position from last year.
Whether he can
take the fight to Pogacar and Vingegaard over the remaining mountain stages
remains to be seen, but his team appears confident in his condition and
approach heading into the second half of the race.
