Following the conclusion of his cyclocross season, Quinten Hermans attention has now switched to the road with the 27-year-old Belgian set to begin his campaign at the Volta ao Algarve.
Following his trip to the Algarve, he will join up with Alpecin-Deceuninck's altitude training camp. Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, Hermans reveals, "After that I will go on an altitude training to be top in the Ardennes classics. My main goal will be the week of Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. I may ride one more Flemish cobblestone classic, but that has not been decided yet.”
A return to Liège-Bastogne-Liège, where the former Intermarche-Circus-Wanty rider rode to a 2nd-placed finish in 2022, behind Remco Evenepoel and ahead of Wout van Aert, is something Hermans is especially looking forward to with the Belgian hoping to go one step further this time around and finish on the top step of the podium.
Having had an underwhelming cyclocross campaign where Hermans achieved just a single victory at Ardooie, the Alpecin rider was in a reflective mood. “I might have expected a bit more from it," he says. "But the level of competition is just very high and I've only been on the bike for five and a half weeks. Then you cannot expect miracles.”
