The Tour de Dumoulin, which was created to inspire young people and named after former cyclist
Tom Dumoulin, will not continue after its 2022 edition. The organisers have decided to end the race.
In a statement, the organisers revealed their decision. “The aim was to inspire youth to play more sports and challenge adults on one of the routes through the beautiful Limburg countryside,” read the statement.
2022 was the third edition of the race. It was launched in 2019, was halted in 2020 due to Covid-19 but continued in 2021. “In recent years, we have organised three beautiful editions of Tour de Dumoulin with great pleasure, passion and dedication. The aim was to inspire young people to play more sports and challenge adults on one of the routes through the beautiful Limburg countryside.”
It further read, “We saw many smiling children during the press conference, fanatics at the Thick Tyre Race, encouraging relatives along the side, plodding faces on the merciless mountains Tom chose, proud cyclists crossing the finish line and many fulfilled participants having a pasta meal in the cycling village.”
However, no specific reason for the decision has been revealed. “Due to various reasons and a combination of circumstances, we decided that the last edition was the last edition. We never know what the future will bring, but for now, we close the chapter 'Tour de Dumoulin'. Joy and sadness go hand in hand with this kind of news, but with us, the feeling of pride prevails. We are very happy that we have been able to let so many children and adults enjoy the sport.”
