Soudal - Quick-Step found their savior of the spring in the person of Mauri Vansevenant. As unlikely hero as he is, Vansevenant impressed with 4th place at Amstel Gold Race to which he added 6th from Liege-Bastogne-Liege today. Now, Wolfpack definitely hoped for more at Classics, but as a consolidation prize, it's not half-bad to find a new leader in the 24-year-old Belgian. It's also a great promise ahead of his next target, the Giro d'Italia.
"I knew a podium would be difficult, so I aimed for a top ten finish. I knew Pogacar would attack at that point, because that's how Remco Evenepoel did it for two years. The only solution was to work together afterwards, because there were also teammates there."
"It was elbow to elbow towards the finish, and I almost hit a phone after the finish. That was a serious blow, but luckily I was able to stay straight. The Giro d'Italia will also follow within ten days," said Vansevenant about his next goal. "I also have ambitions there, especially to go for stages. I think I have a good chance there, with the legs I have now, so I will take good care of myself," he told Sporza.
"I haven't looked at the road book yet, to be honest. I have had a busy period, during which I fully focused on the Ardennes classic. It will be a tough Giro anyway, but that's okay with me. Hopefully the weather will be nice and I can make something beautiful out of it," says Vansevenant.

Didn't Pogi were more consistent than Remco in that 2-year span?

This guy burns so many watts with his highly inefficient riding style ! He bobs his head more than a bobblehead ! And his pedal stroke is almost as bad.

And still gets those results. If he’s anywhere near as good as Jonas at working on his weaknesses, others had better watch out.

Results that aren't a win! This has been his style for his career so when exactly does one work this weakness? Don't see it happening.

He’s 24, started in a team known for underdeveloping talent and he’s having his best year, obviously not doing everything wrong.

Not everyone can be a big 6 and I know a lot of older guys with better styles that would be happy to have gotten 4th at Amstel and 6th in LBL the same year with no real team plan. Compare him to his peers and he really ain’t bad at all.

You seem to have something against the guy improving

Check back in a few years and see where this guy is. If someone hasn't tried correcting this riding style by then he'll still be pack fodder.

What a lovely conversation

Mistermaumau 26 April 2024 at 10:13+ 3631

Compared to who?

Why do you pick one guy out of the peleton who’s by far not the worst and make him sound like he’s not supposed to even be there?

I offer my opinion on a public forum...so what ! Move on if you don't agree unless you're the moderator which you seem to be.
