After announcing the signing of Orluis Aular; and having already closed the signings of Natnael Tesfatsion, Diego Pescador and Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda, Movistar Team is set to take in the new jewel of Spanish cycling: Pablo Castrillo, after putting a more convincing offer than INEOS Grenadiers.
We previously reported that the key day of negotiations was going to arrive this Saturday. Now, the folks at the Gazzetta dello Sport, through their journalist Ciro Scognamiglio, who always tends to have the most some of the most reliable reports on the market, announce that the signing of the Kern Pharma rider by Movistar is practically a done deal.
"Pablo Castrillo, winner of 2 stages in the Vuelta a España with Kern Pharma, and in Spain's selection to compete in this Sunday's elite men's road race, is on his way to join Movistar Team in 2025," Scognamiglio wrote on his X page. Marca's Nacho Labarga previously indicated that today would be the day the decision would be made, further complementing the report.
INEOS Grenadiers was left out of the fight for Castrillo when it seemed to be the favorite for his signing. The British team had interest in the Spaniard since earlier in the year, but the two stage wins at the Vuelta a España saw many more eyes fall on the 23-year old and this includes a Movistar that is hungry for the new Spanish talent.
It has been a great week for Movistar who saw Iván Romeo win the under-23 time-trial World Championships with Iván Romeo, and the double women's junior world titles with Cat Ferguson - two riders they are developing within their ranks.
