The breakaway had a good stage at the Vuelta a Burgos today and it has thrived, Spanish national champion Oier Lazkano has taken the win on the day in a very competitive group.
The fourth day of racing was appropriate for a breakaway and early on a very capable group moved up the front. The uphill start provided the opportunity for strong figures to move up the road and that was indeed the case. Oier Lazkano (Movistar Team), Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates), Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain - Victorious), Matteo Fabbro (BORA - hansgrohe), Jonathan Caicedo (EF Education-EasyPost), Harold López (Astana Qazaqstan Team), Raúl García Pierna (Equipo Kern Pharma), Joan Bou (Euskaltel-Euskadi) and Gianluca Brambilla (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team).
Jumbo-Visma controlled the pace on the day knowing that Vine was not too far from the lead of the race, also as the day didn't present too many difficulties and other teams could join the chase in a finale that suited Primoz Roglic.
The front '8' worked together all the way into the final climb, without attacking each other beforehand as the gap was not too large and the roads were not appropriate. However with 1.3 kilometers to go the stage truly opened up with Brambilla making a move.
A lot of hesitation and balance saw the riders enter the final meters together. Pierna made a move with 500 meters to go, but was then reeled in by Lazkano. The very technical finale saw the Movistar Team rider hit the front early, but he was the one with the most power, and managed to soar all the way into the finish line, beating Santiago Buitrago. Jonathan Caicedo finished third on the day.
Ivan García Cortina arrived first from the peloton with a late attack, Aleksandr Vlasov led the charge for the GC riders who arrived mostly together.
