Soren Kragh Andersen will leave
Alpecin-Deceuninck at the end of the season to join their new main challenger in the form of powerful
Lidl-Trek. The American team already looked very strong at the classics last year and the addition of the 30-year-old Dane will definitely add an extra depth to their roster over the next two seasons.
Soren Kragh Andersen had the best time of his career at the Team Sunweb (now DSM) where he won two stages at the 2020 Tour de France. In 2023, he made a switch to Alpecin-Deceuninck where he assisted Mathieu van der Poel in his epic triumphs at the cobbled classics, being a key member of the Milano-Sanremo victories of his teammates in the last two years.
It's not all only about classics though as the Dane packs a strong time trial which allows him to contest general classifications at smaller stage races with a time trial but without high mountains such as the Renewi Tour where he finished in the top-10 in the past. That could be one of his many targets racing in the Lidl-Trek jersey.
Speaking of his motivation to join Lidl-Trek, Kragh Andersen said: "Lidl-Trek is one of the super teams of the last few years, and I see the team developing even further in the future. So, that makes it a very attractive and cool project for me to be part of. It’s particularly exciting to be joining some of the best Danish riders of this generation (Mads Pedersen, Mattias Skjelmose), it will be super nice to race with them."
"I’m aiming to play an important role for the team in the big spring classics. Lidl-Trek have been assembling a really strong classics team and I’m looking forward to being a part of it. Furthermore, It would be great to take a personal victory, perhaps in one of the Grand Tours. For the rest next I’m just looking forward to have fun with my new teammates and enjoy the ride with them!"
