Team Visma | Lease a Bike have confirmed the signing of Davide Piganzoli on a three-year deal, with the Dutch World Tour Team backing the 23-year-old Italian to make the leap from promising stage racer to established Grand Tour contender.
Piganzoli arrives with growing credentials, having already ridden two editions of the Giro d’Italia – finishing 13th and 14th overall – alongside a stage victory and the overall win at the Tour of Antalya. Seen as one of Italy’s most talented general classification prospects, he now takes the step up to the World Tour after three seasons in the professional ranks.
“Davide is a rider in whom we see a lot of potential,” said Grischa Niermann, the team’s Head of Racing in a press release. “He will initially strengthen our Grand Tour squad in a supporting role, but he will definitely have opportunities of his own as well. We want to grow with him to the next level as a GC rider, and we’re happy he chose us and our project.”
For Piganzoli, the move represents both a challenge and an opportunity to refine his development. “This is a big step in my career,” he explained. “I was really drawn to the project at Team Visma | Lease a Bike because I believe I can continue developing here as a GC rider. There’s so much expertise in this team: experienced riders, top equipment, strong support staff. Step by step, I want to keep growing as a general classification rider.”
The Italian’s arrival reflects Visma’s strategy of blending proven winners with carefully selected young talent. With Jonas Vingegaard, Sepp Kuss and Simon Yates forming the backbone of their Grand Tour ambitions, Piganzoli will add further depth and learn within one of the strongest stage-racing environments in the sport. The expectation is that he will start by working in support of established leaders while gradually carving out his own chances across one-week races and, in time, the biggest three-week events.
Piganzoli’s signature continues a trend of Visma looking to the next generation of climbers and GC specialists, ensuring that the team’s dominance in stage racing is built to last beyond its current stars.
