The 2025 season is history for
Jonas Vingegaard. The Dane, surprisingly, has been criticized for his performance. Despite coming 2nd in the Tour de France (behind an invincible Pogacar) and winning the Vuelta a España, the feeling for some fans is that the Visma star is not racing as many races as he could. Basically, they believe he is wasting his enormous talent.
However, that could change in a 2026 that is already beginning to be theorized about. The possibility of seeing Jonas Vingegaard make his debut in the
Giro d'Italia has been rumored over the past few weeks. The Visma | Lease a Bike leader wants to have all 3 grand tours on his palmarès, and the Corsa Rosa could be a big goal heading into next year.
In view of these latest reports,
Eurosport expert Jesper Worre wanted to give Vingegaard himself one more "little push". In addition to dreaming of the Dane racing the Giro d'Italia for the first time, in a recent analysis he has asked him to also return to participate in a Liège-Bastogne-Liège in which he has not competed since his withdrawal in 2022.
"If Vingegaard can combine it (with the Giro and the Tour), I think he should ride Liège-Bastogne-Liège. If he wants to, of course. If he says he doesn't want to, then he should focus on the one-week stage races and the Grand Tours," he began by noting.
"Then, of course, he should ride the Giro d'Italia. Now that he has won the other two Grand Tours, he should try to ride the Giro, something he himself has been open to," he added.
Jonas Vingegaard thinks of the Giro d'Italia - Tour de France double
The wake of Pogacar
It is clear that something has changed in Jonas Vingegaard's mentality. Until 2024, the Dane's goal was always the Tour de France exclusively (except when he raced the Vuelta in 2023 as well, but ceded his final victory to Sepp Kuss). Now, it seems that there is no year in which the Visma star does not plan to ride at least two of the three grand tours on the calendar.
For the Giro d'Italia, having Jonas Vingegaard in its 2026 edition could only be improved with the challenge of Tadej Pogacar also heading to Italy. Although the Slovenian's preparation will be more difficult, as he wants to prepare for his nemesis Milano-Sanremo, Paris-Roubaix and the Tour de France as major objectives, having his arch-rival in the Grande Partenza could make him consider fighting for his second title there.
