Nairo Quintana saw all his early season plans for his return to Movistar Team go down the drain after contracting Covid-19 and spending several days sick without being able to train after a Tour of Colombia in which he was unable to perform at his best level because of the condition.
The Colombian was then supposed to travel to Europe and start O Gran Camiño where Jonas Vingegaard was in action, but he could not do so because of Covid. His European calendar was delayed by a whole month.
He has been training for a few days in Andorra, where he lives, and it seems that he is ready for his return to competition in Europe. He has not raced in the Old Continent since the 2022 Tour de France. His subsequent positive for Tramadol caused him to break his renewal with Arkea and the MPCC and ASO forced him to have a very complicated return to having a team.
Now he is back and in an Instagram post we have seen him training with his Movistar teammates Nelson Oliveira and Antonio Pedrero with the aim of arriving in top form for the start of the Volta a Catalunya in Sant Feliu de Guíxols next Monday, March 18. The race features several summit finished in the Pyrenees, close to where he lives.
