Gaviria came in as a very experienced sprinter, to lead the team's ambitions in the flat races. After his time with Quick-Step came a long stint at UAE Team Emirates, but this was a team that simply did not have the same support or infrastructure - remembering the lack of an aero bike until recent years - for the sprinters. He has faded in the top of the sprinter world, and in 2023 took on a new challenge. Last season he won stages at the Vuelta a San Juan and Tour de Romandie, and this year only at the Tour Colombia that had a modest field. He has not won since February, although on several occasions he did show top speed throughout the year.
"It is an honour to be able to renew with Movistar Team. A team that, over the years, continues to improve its structure and wants to become stronger. This motivates all the riders on the team to give their best and have good seasons," Gaviria said in a
press release.
"Along with the renewals of Albert Torres and Davide Cimolai, I am very happy because we will be able to continue with our group and continue to improve much more in the sprints and flat races."
