Soudal - Quick-Step's Paul Magnier continues to prove himself the quickest sprinter in the 2024Tour of Britain peloton, taking his third stage win of the race on stage 5.
In somewhat miserable conditions, three riders got themselves up the road and into the days breakaway. Those on the attack were Connor Swift, Rasmus Pedersen and Matthew Holmes. All well over three minutes down, there was little GC threat in the group. With 30km to go, the trio still had around a minute and a half advantage over the peloton.
As the leaders reached the 10km to go marker, they still had 44 seconds, but with Remco Evenepoel himself doing a monster turn on the front of the peloton, the gap was dropping quickly. Into the final 5km though, still 20 seconds separated the two groups. Finally though, inside the final kilometre, they were swallowed up. In the subsequent bunch sprint, Paul Magnier did it again, powering to a third stage win of the race ahead of Ethan Vernon.
