Lidl-Trek come into the
Tour de France with one of the strongest and unique lineups in the whole race. There are two leaders aiming for the overall and points classification, and the rest of the team is built by quality domestiques and experienced stage hunters who will look to give continuation to the team's amazing Giro d'Italia.
Mattias Skjelmose comes in as the team's overall classification contender, after having proven himself last year at the Vuelta a España where he finished fifth and proved himself as a contender. A consistent climber, time-trialist and very versatile rider overall, he will be a contender for the Top10 despite his recent illness. He's won Amstel Gold Race ahead of Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel this year; and recently won the Andorra MoraBanc Classic.
However Skjelmose will be isolated in the mountains. Although Lidl-Trek will not have responsibility to work, he is the sole climber in the team. In the hills, American and Latvian champions
Quinn Simmons and
Toms Skujins will be chasing breakaway wins whilst
Thibau Nys makes his long-awaited Tour debut and will be a very interesting contender for stage wins throughout the entire first week that features a lot of punchy finishes.
On the other side of the lineup is
Jonathan Milan who comes in as a very strong contender for the green jersey and overall a major candidate for stage wins in the bunch sprints, and his leadout. The American team took nothing from the Italian and has brought in his three trusted men -
Simone Consonni,
Edward Theuns and
Jasper Stuyven - in hopes of having the best leadout in the race. It will be a team that is certain to highlight all the stages outside of the mountains in some way shape or form.
