Lidl - Trek continue bolstering 2024 team, Carlos Verona is the newest signing

Lidl - Trek continue to sign quality riders into 2024 and once again they reveal an important piece to their overall puzzle. After the signing of Tao Geoghegan Hart and Patrick Konrad another strong climber comes into the team's roster in Carlos Verona.

“After five very nice years in Movistar Team I had the feeling that it was the right moment to look around to find a team where I could keep growing as cyclist,” Verona said in a press release. “I want to enjoy the best years of my career with new goals and motivations and luckily the opportunity to join Lidl-Trek came just at the right moment... I think I have so many things to learn from my future team members and also I am looking forward to share my knowledge with the younger ones, work as hard as I can for our team leaders, which is what I enjoy most, but also take my own opportunities when possible for stage wins."

A pro since 2011, Verona has only won one race in his career which was at last year's Criterium du Dauphiné. A great sign of evolution from the Spaniard, but his lack of personal results comes down to how much he's put in to help his leaders throughout his career. Rigoberto Urán, the Yates twins, Nairo Quintana, Alejandro Valverde, Mikel Landa and most recently Enric Mas were some of the riders who depended on the 30-year old for support in the mountains, and Lidl - Trek - which is reinforcing itself is looking to benefit from that experience.

Verona will be joining the team as it signs several quality riders, and with the presence of riders such as Giulio Ciccone, Mattias Skjelmose and Tao Geoghegan Hart, there is a high demand for climbing domestiques, in which the Movistar rider fits in perfectly. He was rumoured to be joining INEOS for the past few months but the transfer wasn't to be.

“Carlos Verona is one of the most respected riders in the peloton because of his unfaltering work ethic and strong values," team manager Luca Guarcilena said of the transfer. "He is consistent and reliable, which are two essential qualities for a top-class domestique. Carlos has 12 years of WorldTour experience, but both the Team and rider believe he can take a step forward with the environment Lidl-Trek will provide.”
