Finally, the rain seems to have left the
Giro d'Italia well alone. Stage 16, potentially the first really decisive stage of this years race is adorned in sunshine and
Jefferson Alexander Cepeda couldn't be more delighted.
The
EF Education-EasyPost has already achieved stage victories with Ben Healy and Magnus Cort Nielsen and Cepeda almost did it in the controversial final finish with Thibaut Pinot that ended up being won by the Movistar Team rider Einer Rubio.
The Ecuadorian faces the last week of the Giro d'Italia with enthusiasm and with the clear objective of the team to try to achieve another partial victory. He admits that today's stage is very hard and that it is perfect for pure climbers. He thanks the arrival of the sun:
"I feel very good, I think we are about to start a very tough stage, we are on good legs and we will try to be in the breakaway. We have to try, if the breakaway comes it is fine, we have to try, we will try to win a stage this week The last climb is quite long, quite hard, for pure climbers, the fatigue is going to be felt because we are going to climb 3 more mountains. We have been very cold this Giro, we needed a good sun."
