Team Jayco AlUla were in great number towards the front of the Australian time-trial
national championships, however luck favoured
Jay Vine who has won his first time-trial as a World Tour rider.
“I’m super happy with this win. Time Trialing is always something I thought I could improve on, but I just hadn’t been able to go fast in a good position on the bike since turning professional," the 27-year old said in a post-race interview. He had failed to complete the road race where he was an outsider, but has put his form to good use today in Mount Helen.
Besides the Jayco riders, road race winner Luke Plapp was among the big favourites. However the youngster suffered a puncture, and in the 37-kilometer route Vine ended up the one to clock the quickest time, beating Luke Durbridge by only three seconds.
"We’ve worked a lot with the team to get me in the right position, and it’s definitely working for me so far. To win the title here with the great support of my wife, friends and family is just an amazing way to start the season," Vine concluded. He's set to race the Tour Down Under next week and should be in a leading position with his current form.
