After
Lotte Kopecky took the victory at the Tour of Flanders ahead of
Demi Vollering in second, the roles were reversed at the
Amstel Gold Race with Kopecky delighted to see the
Team SD Worx dominance continue.
“Whether I cursed at Demi's attack? No, this was pre-arranged. I knew it would happen," Kopecky, so often the rider on the top step of the podium, revealed in her post-race interview. “I win the Tour of Flanders, Demi then came second. She now wins her Amstel Gold Race, I am second. It's nicely divided."
The Dutchwoman Vollering delighted the crowd in attendance with her win and Kopecky admits that winning in the Netherlands was something her teammate had always targeted. "Demi absolutely wanted to win this competition,” she says.
“I felt strong uphill and I saw a very strong team again. That is also the merit of our teammates. For us it is very nice, but I understand that people think differently," Kopecky continues, alluding to the criticism of SD Worx dominance. "Anyway, we're not complaining. Is it good for cycling? Every team wants the strongest team possible. Look at Jumbo-Visma with the men. You can also ask that question there.”
