"It should work out for the Tour" - Jakob Fuglsang to test legs at Mercan'Tour Classic after recovering from testicular inflammation

Jakob Fuglsang started his season at the UAE Tour, which he did not finish, and then has not raced until May. A testicular inflammation saw the Dane miss out on the whole spring, but now looks to build back his form towards the Tour de France.

"I'm not as good as last year, but I'm glad to be back. I'm going to try anyway. It was a tough start to the year and it took me a long time to come back. Slowly but surely I'm building up again though, I'm working hard to get back in top shape for the Tour," Fuglsang told CyclingPro.net at the start line in the Alpes Maritimes this morning.

The 38-year old is the defending champion at the Mercan'Tour Classic, the French race which tests some quality climbers this afternoon. He recently rode the Tour de Hongrie on his return with a decent 11th place in the overall classification showing he has base form obtained, and in the meantime has worked towards a better position for the one-day race where he will be an outsider.

Fuglsang's schedule in June is not yet decided, but he will most likely either race the Criterium du Dauphiné or Tour de Suisse, alongside an altitude camp before reaching the Tour de France. "There is still some time, so it should work out for the Tour. If not in the first week, I should be fine in the second and third week," he concluded.
