Ion Izagirre came more than two minutes behind Felix Gall in the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse and is now eleventh overall. The Cofidis rider says he is feeling good and hopes to improve his performance in the Queen stage:
"I'm fine, it's been a Tour of Switzerland, hard, demanding, yesterday I lost more time than expected, but I'll try to be with the best today." The plan is clear and, in a stage with more than 5,000 meters of accumulated level and with passes over 2,000 meters, he hopes that all the previous preparation work done will be noticed and that he can improve his performance.
"The plan is to try to hang in there with the best, it's a different stage to these days, they are different, long passes, we reach more than two thousand meters and hopefully the work done the previous month, in May, will come to light."
Finally, he was asked if the final descent could be key, but Izagirre wanted to put the focus more on the hard climb and the 2 riders who are giving the best sensations in the Tour de Suisse so far on those climbs:
"We'll have to see how the climb goes, both Felix Gall and (Mattias) Skjelmose have shown they have one more point, we'll see if they anticipate that downhill."
There is no doubt that Ion's goal is to arrive in shape for a very special Tour de France for him because he leaves the Basque Country and in which he will try to perform at a high level and get a stage victory or a high position in the final general classification.
