"He taught me a lot of things; he's a real mentor" - Jonas Vingegaard admits it "won't be the same" without Primoz Roglic at the Tour de France

With it recently being announced that Primoz Roglic will not take part in the 2023 Tour de France, Jonas Vingegaard has been discussing the Slovenian and revealed just how important their close friendship has been in his rise to the top.

"It obviously won't be the same without him there," says the reigning Maillot Jaune in an interview with the official Tour de France race guide. "In 2022 we went into the mountains with two leaders. This summer I'll be the only one."

If you cast your mind back to last year's Tour de France, the double teaming and repeated attacks of Roglic and Vingegaard were crucial in cracking Tadej Pogacar, which in turn led to Vingegaard taking a historic victory. It's this kind of teamwork that Jumbo-Visma will be missing this time around.

"Primoz Roglic has always been very important to me, both on and off the bike," Vingegaard continues. "He has incredible calmness and took me under his wing very quickly when I joined the team. He taught me a lot of things; he's a real mentor. I know that if I need him, I can always call him during the next Tour."
