Ben Tulett has had to put up with a lot of bad luck in recent years, but in early 2025 the 23-year-old Brit looks really on the road to fulfilling his potential at Team Visma | Lease a Bike. In the latest impressive display from the former INEOS man, Tulett finished a close second behind Isaac del Toro at Milano - Torino on Wednesday afternoon.
After a frantically attacking day, a trio of Tulett, Del Toro and Tobias Johannessen entered the finale locked together. In fact, the trio passed through the 500m to go marker still together. Rather than waiting for a sprint, Johannessen attempted his own attack but was ultimately reeled back in. When Del Toro then went, there was no response from Tulett as the Mexican secured a first one-day win of his World Tour career in scintillating style at the line.
"I can be satisfied with this result, but when you come so close to victory, it’s also a bit disappointing," Tulett reflects in a post-race press release to the official website of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. "The pace on the final climb was consistently high. I tried to follow Adam as best as I could, and when Isaac attacked, I reacted. In hindsight, I started my sprint a bit too early, but that was a split-second decision. In the end, Isaac was simply too strong."
“It started off very calmly, and the tension built up toward the first passage of the Superga. The finale was high intense," concludes the Brit's post-race reflections. "Fortunately, we were alert at the right moments and positioned ourselves well. I think we executed that well. I’m happy to have secured a podium finish for the team in this tough edition of Milano-Torino. We need to carry this momentum into the upcoming races."
