"In Adam, Dani and Geraint we have three fantastic GC heavyweights" - INEOS head to Denmark with high dreams of yellow

INEOS Grenadiers are a team that has a lot of experience fighting for and winning the Tour de France, but once again this year they come in a position where they will be part of the outsiders. Whilst Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard have most eyes on them, the British team looks to mount an attacking strategy.

Dave Brailsford has talked about how “the competition this year is tougher than ever and that’s a great thing for the sport, the Tour and the fans. But we all know that anything can happen in cycling, especially over three weeks of hard racing across different terrains and weather conditions," he said. The British team has suffered with some Covid-19 cases in the past few weeks, but kept it's planned lineup in for the Grand Boucle.

Rod Ellingworth has commented: "In Adam, Dani and Geraint we have three fantastic GC heavyweights who can mount a real challenge. They have proved their form across the season and are lining up in Copenhagen in great shape." With no set leader, the British team will have three options to perform high in the GC, a tactic that they hope to be beneficial as it shows the British team's depth.

Geraint Thomas has just won the Tour de Suisse, and will be a third weapon for the British team to use. Daniel Martínez and Adam Yates were initial co-leaders heading into June, but they'll find another rider capable of dealing damage alongside them in Thomas - as long as they all manage to be in the right places when/if crashes/echelons/split occur throughout the opening week most importantly.

Tom Pidcock, Filippo Ganna and Dylan van Baarle, all incredible quality riders who are at the very top of their game, will be riding in supporting roles throughout the race. “It’s also a proud moment for the team to see Filippo and Tom make their Tour de France debuts. They’re phenomenal riders who have big careers ahead of them and both are ready to leave their mark on the Tour," he said regarding them.

"And no team could ask for three better super domestiques than Dylan, Jonathan [Castroviejo] and Luke [Rowe]. Collectively they have racing instincts and experience that are second to none," Ellingworth pointed out.
