It was a successful day for
Mikel Landa and Soudal –
Quick-Step at
Tirreno-Adriatico, as the Spaniard made a significant leap in the
general classification following a strong ride on Stage 6.
The Frontignano summit finish, featuring 7.1km of climbing
with gradients exceeding 10%, proved decisive in reshuffling the GC standings.
Landa, who started the day in 16th place, delivered an impressive performance
to climb to seventh overall, showing encouraging form as he continues to build
into the season.
"We were close the entire time to Ayuso, who was the
strongest today and the main favourite for victory, and this was
encouraging," Landa said after the stage
in a team press release. "It
wasn’t an easy climb, and it was important to be in a good position. That’s why
I want to thank the guys—they worked hard the whole day and took good care of
me."
Landa’s steady pacing on the climb allowed him to limit his
losses to Juan Ayuso, who was the dominant rider on the day, securing both the stage
win and the overall race lead.
"On the climb, I just tried to do my best, and I am
happy with my result, especially as this is my first stage race of the
season," Landa added.
His Soudal – Quick-Step teammate Mattia Cattaneo also
delivered a strong ride, ensuring the team now has two riders in the top ten of
the general classification heading into the final stage.
