Filippo Ganna's Hour Record attempt for after the Tour de France has been postponed. The INEOS Grenadiers rider revealed that yesterday in Saint-Étienne, after a disappointing finale where Ganna lacked the legs to fight for the stage win in a suiting day.
After the 13th stage of the Tour, where Ganna was in the dispute for the stage win in the day's breakaway, he described: “I was eating when Pedersen attacked, otherwise I would get cramps. I was at my limit. If I had been in better shape I could have competed for the win," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
He had attacked in the first climb of the day to establish the day's breakaway, but lacked the legs in the end to make the difference. He finished sixth, after missing out on his second opportunity in the race. "But okay, we have to congratulate Pedersen, he was the strongest," he said.
"I do feel better than at the beginning of the Tour. This day gives me morale, hopefully I can win this Tour again," he added. The time-trial on the penultimate day provides another opportunity, however the hilly profile won't favour him. His attentions were turned aswell to the Hour record attempt scheduled for August, but he revealed it has been postponed.
“My attempt has been postponed, it will not be in August. We will set the new date after the Tour, at the moment I don't want to be busy with anything else," he admitted. Not appearing to be in his best form has also affected the decision seemingly.
“The world hour record is not my priority. If I can't try it after the World Championships, we'll move it to 2023. A lot of people ask me about it, but they'll have to wait a little longer," Ganna concluded.
