The
Vuelta a Burgos saw
Jai Hindley, alongside two of his main domestiques
Wilco Kelderman and Emanuel Buchmann test their legs in true climbs and
BORA - hansgrohe have came out of the race with a positive outcome.
“It was a hard final stage today! Then all the boys did a great job helping our three GC guys ahead of the final climb. In the end you either had the legs or you didn't," Hindley admitted after crossing the line at Lagunas de Neila. Having finished strongly on the opening day it seemed as if his form was back after a tough comeback in the Basque Country, but over the week he rode into a seventh place in the GC which is a good indicator for the month and a half that's to come.
He rode into seventh on the final day, staying with the GC group until far in the day but struggling in the difficult final ramps of the climb. "I was personally going alright but just completely exploded in the final 1.5km," he explained. Teammates Wilco Kelderman and Emanuel Buchmann rode into ninth and 19th spot respectively also testing their legs.
"In the end the main goal is to be good for La Vuelta and we still have a bit of time before that, so it's all good," he pointed out. "After such a long time off from racing and then coming off the back of a hard altitude camp, it's nice to be back at the pointy end of a race. I think Wilco and Emu are similar and hopefully we will hit peak form at the right time," he assured the media.
With Sergio Higuita taking a stage win at the Tour de Pologne and showing equally strong form, the team is building up to be at it's best in the final Grand Tour of the season where they are seemingly having a lineup strong enough to fight for a second win this season.
