The race finishes off once again in Rome, with a stage that is suited to the sprinters and will be featuring a circuit around the Italian capital to wrap off the three-week race. Rome hosts the finale of the Giro d'Italia where Jonas Vingegaard will be
crowned overall winner.
The stage will start in the capital, move out of it, and then return for a final circuit that will see the riders go through some of its most iconic monuments. There is going to be an intermediate sprint by the Colosseum; whilst the sprint finish will take place next to the Circo Massimo.
The Favourites
I don't think there will be any serious attacks or threats to a bunch sprint and we will ultimately have the sprinters fight for victory unmatched here. However who will do it is a question as important as any other.
Paul Magnier has been the dominating figure of this year's Giro and the only rider to win a regular bunch sprint. But that doesn't mean he is a sprinter above his rivals and that he will repeat it here.
In a flat bunch sprint there will be lots of variables and we will have
Jonathan Milan looking to save his race; and the same can be said of both
Dylan Groenewegen and
Tobias Lund Andresen.
Any one of these three riders could've been the dominating sprint figure at the Giro if we look at their spring results, but it hasn't clicked for any. Pressure will be high, they will take risks, and they have legitimate quality.
Elsewhere it will be hard to find a winner but riders who can finish high do exist with certainty. Ben Turner or Filippo Ganna for INEOS; Madis MIhkels, Paul Penhoët, Orluis Aular, Toon Aerts, Matteo Malucelli, Jensen Plowright, Giovanni Lonardi and Casper van Uden are all men to consider.
