Thibau Nys is ready to make his official debut with Trek-Segafredo. The Belgian comes from a cyclocross background much like Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel.

He outlined his new experience with WorldTeam and how it differs from his previous team. “Everything is much bigger. You can't compare it in any way. When we do a stage with the Baloise Trek Lions CX team, there are a few riders and two mechanics and caretakers. A small family, which in itself is very nice. But here it's a different world, with sixty people on staff alone. It is a fun and special experience for me. I feel like a kid in a toy shop,” Nys told Het Nieuwsblad

His plans for next season are still being finalized, as the management wants to give him the best possible exposure. “At the moment, there is a rough draft. The intention is to stop racing after the World Championships to start on the road at Nokere Koerse and the GP de Denain. Of course, I will also do short stage races: the Tour of Belgium, the Tour of Wallonia, Norway, the Tour of Romandie... All options. On the road, it's about improving, gaining experience, discovering myself,” said Nys.

Currently, he is still figuring out himself, but he has some ideas about what interests him. "I'm a classics guy, a Wallonian who can't handle the big mountains, but I can handle a short climb. But it will depend on how my physique develops. Maybe the further ahead, it will turn out that I am a sprinter. I personally don't expect that, but it is possible.”

There is no plan yet for him to give up cyclocross, he still believes he has a lot to learn in the field. “I want to emphasise is that I also want to remain a cross-country rider in my own right. The road will become more important in the coming years, but I don't want to distance myself from cyclocross yet. I feel I can still grow in that discipline,” concluded Nys.
