Former Liquigas rider Maciej Paterski calls it quits at the end of the season

Maciej Paterski's road career is over. The 37-year-old Pole has raced for continental teams in recent years, but previously rode in the professional peloton for years, first for Liquigas and then CCC Sprandi Polkowice.

Paterski made his professional debut in 2010 for the famous but now defunct Liquigas team, and rode alongside top riders such as Vincenzo Nibali, Ivan Basso, Peter Sagan and Roman Kreuziger in the first years of his professional career. Paterski ultimately rode at WorldTour level for four years, but switched to home formation CCC Sprandi Polkowice at the end of 2013.

Paterski's honors list includes eleven professional victories. He achieved most of his victories in smaller races in his own country, but the all-rounder also won at WorldTour level in 2015. That year, Paterski won a stage in the Tour of Catalonia, wearing CCC's orange uniform. It turned out to be his first and only victory at the highest level. He also won two stages and the final classification in the CRO Race in the same year. Paterski showed even more great things in his 'wonder year' 2015, with top 10 finishes in the Brabantse Pijl and Amstel Gold Race.

Paterski is now calling it quits as a road cyclist, but will compete on the mountain bike next year. The Pole plans to contest MTB marathons in 2024.
