Remco Evenepoel's potential move to
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe is a possibility and one of the most hotly discussed topics throughout the first week of the Tour de France. There is no denying that the interest exists from the German team, but
Ralph Denk has assured that the decision is mostly up to the Belgians.
"First, Remco has to indicate that he wants to leave. I think if you ask all eighteen WorldTour team managers, they all want him on their team. It's no secret that Remco Evenepoel is a great cyclist, a two-time Olympic champion and world champion," Denk said in BORA's Tour podcast.
Such a move would be bombastic in the cycling world, the first big contract breaking since Primoz Roglic two years ago who also moved to the German team. Red Bull has inserted a lot of money into the team which has signed many quality riders this winter, and it's looking to add Evenepoel to it's ranks.
It's been suggested during this Tour by multiple sources that talks are in an advanced phase but may only evolve - if this happens - after the race. On the Quick-Step camp, there is worry that the move may come to light, but a tough battle to make sure it does not. "Yes, maybe it's possible... But first, he needs to find a solution with his team if he wants to transfer, and then we can step in," Denk explains.
"Remco has a contract with his current team. First, he needs to discuss his potential departure with them. And then he needs to find a solution. As long as there's no solution, we don't need to intervene. Of course, within the peloton and the cycling world, they think Red Bull is involved because there's a lot of money involved and they can afford the high salary expected of Remco Evenepoel."
