For
Einer Rubio, the
Giro d'Italia 2025 has started as expected. In his ambitions for the overall, the Movistar rider lost quite a bit of time in a time trial and will now be under pressure to attack the race in order to gain positions throughout the mountainous days.
After two stages, Rubio is 26th, 55 seconds behind Primoz Roglic. The
Movistar Team rider also lost 39 seconds to Juan Ayuso, 30 to Tiberi, 22 to Simon Yates, 19 to Adam and 16 to Richard Carapaz.
Aware of his limitations, in statements to
Cycling Pro Net, prior to the start of Sunday's stage 3, the Colombian rider affirms that the Spanish team continues to work to minimize damage in these tough time trials:
"I feel very good. We've come prepared, and we've worked a lot on the time trial. We have taken important steps, but knowing that we have to keep improving. Surely the next one will be better," Rubio assures.
Stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia, the last stage on Albanian soil, should not activate the fight for the overall he believes. Even so, he points out that the day will be complicated, and puts special emphasis on Lidl-Trek, which will toughen the race in the climb of more than 10 km to Qafa e Llogarasë, before the descent and straight to the finish.
So Einer confirms that the team will work to keep Orluis Aular (and even Jon Barrenetxea) safe:
"Today I don't think it's a day for the overall, but I think it's a day for the stage win. I think Lidl-Trek will make the climb pretty hard for Mads Pedersen, and we'll be there. We have Orluis Aular who is doing very well. He can be a candidate for the win and we'll have to give him a hand," concludes Einer Rubio.
