Oss collided with two spectators during the third sector, a crash caught on footage by a spectator on a different side of the road. Although the crash was violent, Oss' name did not feature in the day's medical report, and besides some surface injuries it would seem as if he was fine to continue the race.
TotalEnergies have confirmed however throughout the night that Oss suffered a fractured cervical vertebrae which will need to be immobilized throughout some weeks as a result.
Oss had been so far playing a support role for Peter Sagan, who will now be missing a crucial piece of his leadout. TotalEnergies will remain fighting for a stage win in the race, which they have gotten close to on all but one occasions - the initial time-trial.
