Eight riders of
Human Powered Health have a contract until 2024 but the team is now under hot water. It is reported that the American outfit has not yet been able to find a sponsor for 2024 and is under serious risk of folding.
The news come as a bad reminder of the instability of cycling teams within the peloton, even those that reach out to be incredibly successful. Under several denominations, Human Powered Health has been in the pro peloton since 2007 and has hosted several riders that went on to become some of the world's best. Whilst the men's team is under risk, Daniel Benson of GCN who reports on the possible disband of the team, adds that the women's team is safe as a Women's World Tour structure into next season.
Michael Woods, Sepp Kuss and Brandon McNulty are good examples of that, the team has always proven to be a key structure for the development on men's North American cycling, signing and developing many of it's talent. More recently the team has conducted an important array of sprinters and last winter attempted to sign Mark Cavendish. However the title sponsor has not renewed into 2024 and no-one has yet stepped in.
“The team will stop. That’s the extent of what we know, and it sounds like the usual struggle with finding sponsors,” a source informed GCN. “There is a possibility, it sounds like, of some sort of rescue. I know that the management is working super hard, and they’ve historically done a super job. So it’s not all hope lost but they wanted to treat everyone with respect and give everyone enough time for those looking for rides and work next week.”
