German Max Kanter leaves Movistar Team to sign for Astana Qazaqstan

Astana Qazaqstan Team has announced the signing of the talented German sprinter Max Kanter, who at 25 years of age, joins the Kazakh team for the next two seasons (2024 and 2025). The Teuton will thus leave Movistar Team;

"It's a good signing for me. Astana Qazaqstan Team is a team with a great and successful history in cycling. If I look back to the beginning of my cycling career, I remember Astana very well as a team with many successes. Joining the team now means a lot to me and I am very confident that I will achieve great things together with Astana. For me, this signing means the continuation of my development as a rider, but also the continuation of the improvement the team is aiming for in sprinting. I am ready and looking forward to helping the team in this progress," Max Kanter enthusiastically expressed upon receiving the news of his addition to the team.

Kanter has proven his worth in the Junior and U23 categories, achieving notable accomplishments including his title as German U23 road cycling champion in 2018. In addition, his performances at the Tour de l'Avenir and the Tour of Flanders Under 23 (Ronde van Vlaanderen Beloften) reaffirmed his potential as a high-performance cyclist.

As a professional, Max Kanter has been successful in several stages of prestigious competitions. The German cyclist achieved two third place finishes in stages of La Vuelta in 2020, as well as notable performances in Gooiksi Pijl, Primus Classic and Milano-Torino in 2022. During the current season, Kanter has shown his versatility by working hard to support his teammates, while achieving impressive results in stages of the Saudi Tour, the Tour of Oman and Paris-Nice, earning multiple Top-10 finishes.

"We know Max as a strong and promising sprinter. He was successful in the U23 category and at the beginning of his professional career, but after that, maybe he lacked something to show his potential. Now we are willing to work together, to offer Max the opportunities that come his way because we believe he can perform on his own. Of course, we also count on him as an assistant to other sprinters in races where it is necessary. I would say he is a good signing for Astana, he will help us continue our work to create a strong and successful group of sprinters," said Alexandr Vinokurov, General Manager of the Astana Qazaqstan team.
