After Bradley Wiggins, now Adam Blythe has come to support Mark Cavendish. He is not pleased with Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl boss Patrick Lefevere after it was announced Mark Cavendish will leave the team.
“Patrick, what the hell are you playing at? It’s Mark Cavendish, the greatest sprinter of all time,” Blythe told Eurosport. He continues, “You stopped him going to the Tour de France this year, you didn’t give him that opportunity to get that record. Has Eddy Merckx paid you? For me, Mark Cavendish, you can never write him off. You just need to give him that chance. The Tour de France is the Tour de France, and Mark turns into another rider coming into that. I think it would only be fair if Patrick would do that.”
Quick-Step’s line-up for the Tour de France was missing the name of Cavendish which was a surprise since the sprinter has been performing great this season. He won four stage wins and the green jersey at last year’s Tour, which put him equal to Eddy Merckx’s record of 34 stage wins in the tour.
Cavendish still hopes to continue his dream of breaking the record, and he is busy finding another team who can guarantee him a spot in the team next year. “He’s got to look for another contract now, and I do hope that he can prove Patrick Lefevere wrong in not taking him to the Tour and not letting him be part of the team in the future,” concluded Blythe.
