Vuelta a Espana 2026 Classifications Update Stage 9 - Wout van Aert opens 67-point green jersey gulf as Enric Mas continues in red

The first red jersey of the 2026 Vuelta a Espana will be decided immediately in Monaco, where a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial opens a race featuring more than 58,000 metres of climbing, repeated summit finishes and a second race against the clock later in the final week.
This live classifications hub will be updated after every stage with the latest General Classification, Points Classification, Mountains Classification and Best Young Rider standings, tracking the fight for the red, green, polka-dot and white jerseys from Stage 1 on August 22 through to the final stage in Granada on September 13.
The overall battle will be shaped by repeated opportunities for the climbers, from the early Pyrenean and Andorran tests to Calar Alto, Sierra de la Pandera, Penas Blancas and the decisive Collado del Alguacil. The two individual time trials and bonus seconds provide further chances for the gaps between the main contenders to change.
Sprint finishes and intermediate sprints will drive the points competition, breakaways can quickly transform the mountains standings and the white jersey will develop alongside many of the same stages that decide the general classification. Each update will show the latest standings after the day's racing and highlight the important changes across all four competitions.

The late attacks produced no lasting separation between the leading GC contenders, leaving the first 15 positions unchanged.
Mas continues to lead Roglic by 1:18, with Felix Gall third at 1:39 and Oscar Onley fourth at 2:20. Richard Carapaz remains fifth at 3:26. Mattias Skjelmose holds sixth at 3:55, while Sepp Kuss remains seventh at 4:09 after briefly joining the attacks during the finale. Harold Tejada, Gregor Muhlberger and Jakob Omrzel complete the top 10.

Points Classification Standings after Stage 10
Van Aert increased his total from 124 to 143 points, opening a commanding 67-point advantage over new second-placed rider Alessandro Romele. Romele climbs one position with 76 points, moving ahead of Matthew Brennan, who remains on 67 after spending the finale working for Van Aert. Pedersen stays fourth with 58 points despite being dropped before the finish.
Stage winner Tronchon makes the largest move, rising 29 positions to eighth with 48 points. Mas slips two places to ninth on 47, level with tenth-placed Jordi Meeus.

King of the Mountains Classification Standings after Stage 10
There is no change at the head of the mountains classification. Santiago Buitrago retains the polka dot jersey with 29 points, five ahead of Mas. Andreas Leknessund remains third with 19 points, followed by Van Aert on 16. Lorenzo Fortunato and Alexey Lutsenko are level on 13, one point ahead of Pavel Sivakov.

Youth Classification Standings after Stage 10
Onley continues to hold a substantial advantage in the white jersey competition after safely negotiating Stage 10. The British rider leads Omrzel by 5:45, with Jarno Widar third at 7:14. Leo Bisiaux remains fourth at 11:31, ahead of Matthew Riccitello at 13:16 and Juan Felipe Rodriguez at 14:34.
With every rider in the top six retaining the same position, the stage produced no change to the structure of the youth classification.

- I hope you're correct! But I just don't share the same positivity with Carapaz joining Ineos. He was great in his prime, but I don't see his winning ways having many years left. Year on year, I find that Ineos continue to invest in either the past-their-prime cyclists, or the super domestiques who they try to push to be GT winners but will never quite make it. - Pidcock is so automatic on the mountain bike. His schedule makes sense too - get skills and comfort in earlier in the year. The summer road season is great for fitness, and he goes for wins. and then back on the MTB for a final tune up for the WC. Unless Mathieu wants to forego some of his spring goals, it will have hard to win a WC on the MTB.mij01-09-2026

- The stone was not the only problem, he was one handed (eating or drinking) he veered into a Visma rider and then braked voluntarily or involuntarily and went over the bike , that caused the issue, otherwise he should have been ok.
