- Agreed. It’s almost baffling for them to consider Roglic as a GC contender. I’d like to see Roglic go all in, in support for Pellizzari or Lipowitz, but based on historical performances, I can’t seem him willingly dedicate 3 weeks in 100% support for someone else.
- I think that something has been lost in translation here. Who exactly 'went to prison', or has paid the price for their suspected involvement with doping practices? It certainly wasn't Mauro Gianetti.
- Agreed @mij. I can’t imagine there was a dry eye from cycling fans when he won PR. Nor the absence of cheers when he won on the Montmartre. Truly a rider for the fans.
- It’s easy to see him as a "fanboy," especially when he defends Tadej's dominance in interviews. However, I think it's more likely a mix of extreme honesty (admitting Tadej is simply stronger) and strategic alignment. Remco still wants the crown, neither you, nor your team spend millions of euros on specialised support if you’re content with being the world No.1’s best friend.
- There are actually whispers at the University of Texas about some shady practices with the swim team /Leon Marchand. You won't read about it in a French newspaper that is for sure. In fact doping and swimming rarely even gets brought up in US newspapers
- ...And Pogačar could even come second because van der Poel punctured twice in the Arenberg. Or maybe that Alastair Mackellar would've won if he hadn't encountered so many problems
Wout van Aert did not win because Pogačar had to spend energy. He won it because of his superior bike handling. As we saw many times, Pogačar had the power to drop Wally but was limited by his bike handling.
- The other issue Red Bull have is that Remco won't win another Monument or Grand Tour.
- And the iranian regime has a fantastic human rights record? Have your read the hamas founding charter, look no further than that if you want to see genocide codified. No more colnagos for me as Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security advisor and a member of the royal family, acquired a majority stake in Colnago in 2020.
- Rideshills, you nailed it. Visma’s laissez-faire is what’s now cost Rogliç his 5 Vueltas (not that they care now he’s left). Kuss was a domestic and there was never any discussion of letting him win before the games started, he was there to prepare for a leader to take GC, his nationality probably played into pressure from loud voices calling for granting him the win (which is what ultimately happened as the other two held back for a fake result, don’t think anyone has ever been ALLOWED to win like that).
Probably the fact PR already won the Giro and JV the Tour also played into the way of « solving » the situation.
PR’s attitude is totally understandable, he’d already seen too many GC chances slip away through tiny errors of judgement and obviously wasn’t going to let another slip by lying down.
