- Agreed. Road races are one of the least important times to have power readings.
- One of the best memories of Quintana was when, after practically riding for Valverde for much of the 2015 Tour, he was finally given full leadership and went on to give Froome a big scare during the final couple mountain stages, gaining big on him a couple days in a row. You can only wonder what would have been if he had had full team leadership from the start. You can always dream, right? I was a Nairoman fan.
- Sounds like they are setting up WVA with an excuse if he doesn’t conquer the titans.
- I haven't checked statistics, but I've also felt recently, why are they never both in top form at the same time anymore?
- The hypocrisy of this statement from Hincapie is truly laughable! Can't wait for Doper Horner to now chime in !
- Listening to interviews, many riders will talk about reading and using their power numbers during a race
- I'm taking the hint that he is referring to God protecting MVDP? I don't believe in God, but even if I do, I doubt God would favour one over another. My opinion is that what it really comes down to is bike handling. MVDP arguably has the best bike handling in the world right now. No interventions required from God!
But more importantly... is that a fender on the rear wheel of WVA's S5 on the ferry?!
- he got 2nd in the TdF, so yes, he was at an insane level. but his LBL crash had some affect. w/o it would he have won? we'll never know. but the initial point was that the mau mau guy said Tadej is the only one to have never been SERIOUSLY affected by anything lengthy, and I would argue a broken wrist at LBL is an affect, and it is lengthy.
w/o that crash he still may have been crushed by Jonas.
but regardless, he was affected. which was my initial point.
Tadej had just over 9 weeks (68 days) between breaking his wrist at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the start of the TdF. Most people would be off a bike for 12 weeks, he went from the arguably the hardest monument to the hardest race with minimal training days, on a shortened schedule already.
I can't believe anyone would think he wasn't affected.
- There's a big difference between the ordinary Internet reader and someone who's got a job and doesn't do it properly. Not knowing that a somewhat popular cycling podcaster regularly shares clips from non-recent interviews is not a big deal, but checking the interview date (and not misquoting Lemond) should be basic, mandatory verification.
- The 'In den tijd van Roger de Vlaeminck' meme is quite a punchy one, and it arose precisely due to De Vlaeminck's criticisms of the last few crops of riders. It sounds a lot better in Dutch (though maybe that's my impression as an English speaker) but is even more punchy when accompanied with illustrations
