Just like Froome, it should be in the mountains and stage-races that the Italian can prove himself. He's proven himself throughout the year in several races and then at the Tour de l'Avenir he truly broke through, winning the final mountain stage and riding into second in the overall classification.
He stays with the ProTour team in hopes of paying back the confidence, and looks towards the
Giro d'Italia and pro wins as an elite rider. "Being at the Giro d'Italia? It would be a dream, I have goosebumps even now thinking about it," he admits. "But there's still a long way to go. I still have to get back to work on the time trial. As a Junior I got by, but lately I've neglected it a bit. In 2024 I will return to work on it."
