One of the riders unlucky enough to be involved in a crash at the
Amstel Gold Race,
Alpecin-Deceuninck's
Xandro Meurisse suffered a fracture in his left wrist it has been revealed.
Thankfully for the 31-year-old Belgian, surgery will not be required. However, Meurisse's left arm will now be set in plaster for ten days, ruling him out of action for the foreseeable future. “The examination showed a multiple, but not displaced, fracture in the left wrist,” Alpecin-Deceuninck revealed on their official social media.
“Surgery is not necessary. Xandro will receive an open plaster cast for ten days, after which the next steps in the treatment can be taken," the post continues. “The first goal is to be able to train on the rollers again and to rehabilitate so that he can participate in the team training camp at the end of May.”
Meurisse had previously abandoned at Brabantse Pijl although the Belgian had played a key part in the Tour of Flanders helping teammate Mathieu van der Poel ride to a second-placed finish behind the eventual winner Tadej Pogacar.
