VIDEO: "I mean come on!" - Jonathan Vaughters criticises slipstream seemingly given to Tadej Pogacar in Amstel Gold Race finale

Whilst no one is doubting that Tadej Pogacar was the strongest rider at the 2023 Amstel Gold Race, Jonathan Vaughters has been just one of many to take to social media and criticise the slipstream seemingly given to the Slovenian during his run in to the line.

It was the car of the Amstel Gold Race Director, Leo van Vliet that caused the controversy. Following Pogacar's destructive race-winning attack, the UAE Team Emirates rider was riding a solo time-trial to the finish line. At this point however, the car of van Vliet overtook the Slovenian and lingered in front of him, gifting him the benefit of slipstream.

As Vaughters the general manager of EF Education-EasyPost says in response to a reply on his Twitter post that you can see below, despite the unlikelihood of either chasers Ben Healy and Tom Pidcock successfully catching the eventual race winner, "it would have been fun to see him try."
