For Sylvain Moniquet, 2025 was supposed to be a fresh start, having moved from Lotto Dstny to Cofidis. Sadly for the 26-year-old Belgian though, his preparation for 2025 has been halted after he was knocked down by a car during training.

"I was coming from Namur and I was going towards Dinant," Moniquet explains in conversation with DH Net. "Unfortunately, at the big roundabout in Profondeville, a car cut me off. I went straight to the emergency room to see if my pelvis was fractured. Fortunately, nothing is broken, but I will be unable to move for two days. And it will take a few days before I can move normally again."

As mentioned, this crash couldn't have at a worse time for Moniquet as he attempts to build up fitness for the 2025 season and bed in with his new teammates at Cofidis. Now though, the former Lotto Dstny rider will be set for a time of rest and recovery off-bike.

Moniquet's crash is also the latest in a number of high-profile string of training crashes with cars during this off-season. Most notably, Moniquet's compatriot Remco Evenepoel was hit by the opening door of a BPost van on a training ride near his home, with the double Olympic champion breaking numerous bones in the incident.

Currently, the plan for Moniquet is still to open his season in Portugal on the 16th of February at the Figueira Champions Classic, with Classic Var in France also still on his programme according to Pro Cycling Stats for later in the month.
