Geraint Thomas, the 2018 Tour de France winner, is gearing
up for what is likely to be his final year as a professional cyclist in 2025.
While the season ahead will undoubtedly be one of reflection, the
INEOS Grenadiers has
started the year with a unique gesture in his hometown of Cardiff, aimed at
spreading some joy during the post-holiday blues of January.
Next to Thomas's iconic golden post box on Castle Street, a
tribute to his Olympic gold medal in 2012, a collection of BrewDog's
alcohol-free beers is available for free to those who know the magic words:
"G sent me." The initiative is part of a collaboration between
Thomas, his GTCC (Geraint Thomas Cycling Club) podcast, and BrewDog, offering residents
a chance to tackle Dry January with some balance.
"Who's in Cardiff today and fancies a free beer?"
"For January, the GTCC has teamed up with BrewDog to
bring some balance to the start of 2025. And to celebrate, I’ve left some
crates of BrewDog AF at my golden post box on Castle Street in Cardiff. They’ll
be there from midday today - just say ‘G sent me’ to get yours. And if you miss
out, don’t worry - you can head to BrewDog Cardiff and enjoy a pint of BrewDog
AF on me at any point today. Just tell the bar staff I sent you. Let me know if
you make it."
The gesture reflects Thomas’s down-to-earth personality and
his connection to Cardiff, where he has become a local hero. For those who miss
the chance to grab a crate on Castle Street, Thomas has ensured a free pint is
still available at BrewDog's location on Westgate Street.
On the cycling front,
Thomas’s first race of 2025 will take
place later this month at the
Tour Down Under, marking the start of the
UCI World Tour season.
