Alejandro Valverde, who is currently focused on his new professional stage in Mountain Bike, is still part of the Movistar Team discipline, and as such, he is no stranger to the critical situation of the Spanish team in the UCI Ranking. He recently made this known in a conversation with Relevo during the Vuelta a Ibiza MTB.
"I'm still linked to Movistar, at least for now," Valverde explained. "I've traveled with them to the Tour Colombia and the Volta a Catalunya. I don't see myself as team manager. But we'll see next year. I'm also on the Performance team to follow up on the kids."
Later in the conversation itself, it was going to be inevitable to mention the situation in which Movistar Team finds itself in the UCI Ranking, as already mentioned above in this article, due to a horrible start of the team in the 2024 season, their standings leave a lot to be desired.
"A good season would be to get a lot of points, which are much needed. We're back to the fucking points, we have to get victories," added Alejandro Valverde. "The guys have to be committed. Some of them want to, others lack motivation. The bad thing is that there are so many races, and points are added everywhere with all the teams participating everywhere".
As you know, there are 18 licenses within the peloton that are distributed to be part of the WorldTour every three years. At the moment, Movistar Team is in 16th position in the UCI Ranking ahead of Cofidis and Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL, and behind Israel - Premier Tech. Will Movistar lose the license in 2026?
